Meet Maudlyn Utukwa

PROFILE.

My name is Maudlyn Utukwa also known as the Cakefairy, Founder/Head baker
at Cake Buds by Maudlyn.

I hail from Gwer East LGA of Benue State
I hold a Bsc. in Psychology and an Msc. in
Industrial Psychology, from Benue State University.

I am a baker and a sugar artist. I started out as a hobby baker, baking
free cakes for friends on the occasion of their birthdas. Earlier on, I was
satisfied with the mere pleasure of making free surprise cakes for people,
until i realised baking was not just a hobby but a deep passion as I always
ceased every opportunity to bake. When I felt an intractable pull towards
this direction(of course triggers from friends contributed) I began to
take measures to make a career out of my passion. I was already in the city
of Lagos at the time(post NYSC) working.

The journey was not such a smooth one for me as I had to choose between my
job at the time and pursuing a passion that was becoming consuming.

Eventually, I quit my job in order to give full attention to baking. I
attended specialised trainings and worked at a top flight bakery in the
city of lagos as a trainer and cake decorator. These indeed was the high
point of my baking career.

Although, exposing myself to a new terrain was challenging because I needed
to do excessive marketing to introduce myself to the market, I was able to
build a reasonable clientele and gained good recognition, before my
decision to relocate to Makurdi, the Benue State capital.

Today, I have made over two thousand cakes, for both individual and
corporate clients across the country. My perseverance paid off I
guess(smiles).

I would say, my edge in the industry can be traced to the exquisite taste
in my cakes, impeccable finishing, and absolute attention to details. For
me, every stage in the process of cake making is important, from the
quality of ingredients/materials, to the taste and overall decoration of
the cake.

I have a proven track record and a good team that makes every cake project
a success.

My dream is to keep making tasty and elegant cakes, working with the
client's budget to give them bespoke cakes. I believe there is a cake for
every budget.
