We Never Purchased Vehicles For Local Governments- Ortom
The Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom has informed that his government did not purchase official cars for local government caretaker chairmen as widely speculated, but only commissioned and presented the cars to them.
According to him the Local government chairmen had purchased their vehicles from their allocations due to them as widely decided by them adding that even as the vehicles were purchased by the present caretaker chairmen they will be left behind when their tenure expires.
The governor who made this known yesterday while addressing the media at the Benue Peoples House further disclosed that his government has vowed never to tamper with Local Government funds as they will be meant for the local governments only.
The governor said he had resolved that the money accrued to local government must be applied to use in the local governments and no other government project away from the local government will attract such money.
Ortom however warned that even as his administration had decided to allow the local governments authority over the funds, the state government will continue to oversee the expenditure and other affairs of government to ensure judicious use of the funds.
Meanwhile he sued for the patience of local government staff who he acknowledged were still owed salaries even as he promised his government’s decision to clear all outstanding salaries owed all civil servants in the state on arrival of the bond availed to states by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
