3 BENUE WOMEN RECEIVE OXFAM AGRICULTURE AWARD

Her Excellency, Mrs. Eunice Ortom, Wife of the Governor of Benue State, today at Transcorp Hilton, Borno/Rivers Hall, led Benue Women to receive Oxfam "Ogbonge Women Award".
The occasion was declared open by Her Excellency, Wife of the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mrs. Aisha Mohammadu Buhari, who was represented by Her Excellency, Mrs. Timipre Silva, former Bayelsa State Firstlady.
In her goodwill message as Distinguished Guest of Honour, Mrs. Ortom emphasized the commitment of Samuel Ortom administration in the promotion of agriculture in Benue State to ensure food security, agribusiness and subsistence. She thanked Oxfam Nigeria for their enormous efforts in the development of agriculture in Nigeria and Benue in particular.
In his welcome address, the Head of Program, Oxfam Nigeria, Mr. Constant Tchona explained that Oxfam is an international confederation of 17 organisations working in approximately 94 countries worldwide to find solutions to poverty and what it considers injustice around the world. In all Oxfam's actions, the ultimate goal is to enable people to exercise their rights and manage their own lives. Oxfam works directly with communities and seeks to influence the powerful, to ensure that poor people can improve their lives and livelihoods and have a say in decisions that affect them. Each organization (affiliate) works together internationally to achieve a greater impact through collective efforts.
Her Excellency, Aisha Mohammadu Buhari and Her Excellency, Mrs. Ortom were presented with a Food Basket, each as gift. The winners from Benue include Mrs: Dorcas Adzenda, Nguveren Jande and Iember Gafa, who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd, respectively. The winners received checks of N250,000, N200,000 and N150,000 in that order from Oxfam.
