The Wife of the Executive Governor of Benue State, Mrs. Eunice Ortom in collaboration with the Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN) today in Makurdi carried out Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign with a Road Walk from Mr. Biggs to BSU Makurdi, where a Summit was declared open by the Wife of the Governor.
Delivering a Key Note Address at the Summit, Her Excellency emphasized the necessity for the campaign, stating inter alia, that Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.
Her Excellency stressed that Breast Cancer Awareness today in Benue is an effort by the Samuel Ortom administration to raise awareness and reduce the stigma of breast cancer through education on symptoms and treatment. She expressed the hope that greater knowledge will lead to earlier detection of breast cancer, which is associated with higher long-term survival rates, and that efforts of the Benue State Government at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital and other health care facilities towards breast cancer will produce a reliable, permanent cure.
In her welcome address, the President of Medical Women Association of Nigeria (MWAN), Dr. Mrs. Priscilla Utoo appreciated the determination of the Wife of the Governor to advance the message of cancer awareness, substance abuse, and mental health among many other areas of collaboration.
