BENUE, FIRS PLEDGE GREATER COLLABORATION TO IMPROVE IGR
By Terver Akase
Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom today visited the headquarters of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Abuja, where he met with Chairman of the Service, Mr Babatunde Fowler to discuss issues of collaboration.
Governor Ortom expressed the readiness of the Benue State Government to partner FIRS in meeting its revenue target in the state.
He said the measures introduced by his administration had improved the Internally Generated Revenue, IGR of the state with prospects of greater improvement in the months to come, describing IGR as a pillar of the economy.
"This country has no reason to face the nature of financial challenges it currently faces if internal revenue had been prudently managed in the past. Our administration believes that the current economic challenges in states of the federation can be overcome through internal revenue generation and other proactive measures. In Benue State, the revenue generating strategies we have introduced have helped to also plug leakages and we hope to build on that," he stated.
Governor Ortom commended the FIRS Chairman for the appointment of a Benue son, Mr Andrew Ayabam as a director in the organisation.
Mr Fowler had earlier thanked Governor Ortom for the visit and assured him of greater collaboration between Benue and FIRS. He said Governor Ortom was the first Governor to visit the headquarters of the Service during his tenure, saying that the gesture was a sign of better things to come.
The FIRS Chairman called for the support of Benue State to enable the organisation continue to deliver on its mandate in the state.
