A Rejoinder to Jimin Geoffrey ON THE CHAIRMANSHIP OF BIRS
By Torkuma Dekimbi
It baffles me so much when people agitate for change; yet, contradict themselves in terms by advocating for the recycling of old hands. When will new ideologies be given the opportunity to come to bare towards the actualization of a meaningful development in the society? May be for selfish reasons anyway...
BUt
1. Does it mean that when those old people are no longer there, the system will go into extinction without continuity?
2. What then will be the fate of youngsters who are coming up with fresh, superior and more resourceful ideas; showing the new way of doing things? Oooo! We should allow them to die and be buried with their ideas?
3. If a particular Chief executive hires someone and decides to fire him for obvious reasons, why should there be advocacies for his return in a new regime?
4. Come to think of it, where were these people calling for the return of the person under consideration when he was fired? Why were these agitations not as strong as this, as at the time of his sack?
5. Before a person is hired for any service(s), there must be terms and conditions. The rules of engagement must be explicitly spelt out. In the event that this fellow was relieved of his duties, why did he not seek redress legally, if he had any moral justification, given the established terms and conditions?
6. On a different thought, why the sudden anxiety and desperation to go back to that office? Is there anything so special about it? Did he forget anything there? Hope it's not for the wrong reasons?
7. For one to be rated best or worst, there must be objects and subjects of comparison. We need to try other people, assess their antecedents before we can validly or fallaciously ascribe such qualities to any of them.
8. Talking about 'TECHNOCRACITY' involves someone who has 'authoritative knowledge' of a particular skill or discipline. To say scholarly or scientifically that one is an AUTHORITY in a field, means he/she has demonstrated in character and learning (through the evidence of certificate and experience) the authenticity of the same. Else, he/she lacks the elementary criterion to parade or be paraded as such.
9. Given the content of item number 8 above, who will you prefer to man the affairs of BIRS, if you were the Governor: the one who studied TAXATION and has worked for so many years with the FIRS and has grown through the ranks in appreciation for hard work and dedication to service or someone who studied SOCIOLOGY and has been working with the bank all through (who was tried but for obvious reasons asked to leave half way)?
If I were the Governor, I would have made my choice long ago, for the betterment of the state.
CHANGE HAS COME TO STAY, THIS CHANGE IS NOT JUST IN PRINCIPLES BUT MUST REFLECT IN THE CHOICE OF WHO WE CHOOSE TO DO WHAT AND WHAT.
