I FORSEE A REVOLT AGAINST SEN GEORGE AKUME
By Tery'ila Ibn Apine
The African proverb which says '' When a frog in front falls in a pit others behind take caution'' aptly comes to my mind as thoughts of this great man enveloped me.

While I watched the drama at the senate over the election of Saraki and Dogara as senate president and Speaker respectively.
I am tempted to believe the argument that some forces actually intend to cut to size the influence
of the APC leader, sen Bola Tinubu.
The rebellion has nothing to do with frustrating the Government of President Buhari.
As the drama dragged on I kept thinking of the influence of Sen George Akume on the politics of Benue.
Akume is the Lord of Benue politics whether one accepts it or not.
He stands on the same file with people like Sen Amodu sherriff, Late Olusola Saraki, Bola Tinubu etc. All these people have been determining who governs their states ever since they left office.
Sen Akume, single handedly brought in Suswam and now Ortom.
With a massive grass root support, Akume has a hand in the victory of almost all the players in Benue politics today. At a point when Sen Gemade's political life was to be quenched by Suswam, Akume came to is aid and helped in defeat Suswam.
Similarly When Ortom felted short changed in PDP, it took Akume to hand over the APC ticket to him.
Akume is an extremely humane person with a personality that easily attracts people to him. His attitude of giving is his major strength.
He knows how to gather all caliber of people around him. The poor and rich alike.
People say that if you find favour before him, he finishes your poverty that you never even remember that you were ever poor. His magnnanimity knows no bound.
Take it or leave it Sen Akume has emerged the leader of the Tiv race.
Akume has established a political dynasty in Benue like Tinubu has in Lagos and the south west and by extension the country.
Kingdom and dynasties are easy to build but difficult to sustain.
Sen Akume has to purge himself of imposition or dictatorial propencities which he is largely accused of, Critics of Akume accuse him of violating zoning formulas and picking mediocres to replace sound and acceptable candidates for appointments and political offices.
Again, Akume is accused of having an over bearing influence over people he helps to secure political offices. That he dictates the day to day running of such offices or activities of such persons.
Sen George Akume has to listen to the yearnings and position of the masses. These masses are his most important constituency. He has to keep them intact especially now that the PVC's are in the hands of these common men and women. A leader thinks more about the welfare and future of his people.
Akume has to rather prevail on the people who have gotten to political office through his support and influence to provide dividends of democracy to the common man.
If Akume does not look critically at these issues, there might likely be a revolt against his political influence in the next election..
