The Benue State Governor, Mr. Samuel Ortom, and other stakeholders in Benue State including the former Governor of Benue State have condemned the heinous killing of an elder statesman and People Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain,Chief Atoza Ihindan, by suspected assassins.
According to the Benue State governor, the murder of the PDP leader is condemnable while adding that the state government will energise security apparatus in the state to unravel and apprehend the killers of elder Ihinda, a recent recipient of the prestigious national award.
Also condemning the killing of Ihindan, was the  immediate past governor of Benue State, Dr. Gabriel Suswam.
He  condemned in the strongest terms, the brutal killing of  Ihindan by some suspected gunmen.
Suswam who is abroad recuperating from a recent  medical surgery, in a statement  over the weekend, tasked the police and other security agencies to ensure those behind the killing of Hon. Ihindan were arrested and brought to justice.” this atrocity cannot go unpunished. The killers must be brought to book” Suswam said in a statement.
The former governor  similarly condemned the spate of killings in Katsina- Ala Local Government Area in recent times which has claimed the lives of other prominent community leaders, among them some members of the PDP, saying under no circumstance should anybody take another person’s life.
“I have just been told of the death of Elder Atodza Ihindan, who was my close political associate and the caucus chairman of our party in my senatorial zone. He was an elder statesman who was known for nothing else than politics and community leadership. His killing therefore, can hardly be divorced from his political activities,” the former governor stated.
In a reaction to the unending killings in Katsina/Ala, former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, urged the federal government to beef up security in the state to stem the tide.
Tsav said, “what you see happening in Katsina-Ala is becoming uncontrollable because hardly a day passes without reports of gruesome murder of persons; this is how Boko Haram started in the North-east.
“I have called the attention of the Inspector General of Police to the ugly development because I feel disturbed; I’m urging the federal government to draft more security operatives into the state because it appears the personnel on ground have either been overwhelmed or compromised.
“Though I must confess that the present Commissioner of Police is doing his best as a thorough officer, it appears his subordinates are not doing their jobs.”
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Assistant Superintendent, ASP, Austin Ezeani, who confirmed the killings said the Commissioner of Police, Hyacinth Dagala, had detailed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Unit to move into the area.
He said, “as I speak with you a suspect with fresh bullet wounds has been arrested, he also took our men to the home of another suspect where large cache of arms were recovered though the owner of the house is on the run, but we are on his trail.”
