ORTOM URGES BENUE FARMERS TO INTENSIFY SOYABEAN CULTIVATION

Governor Samuel Ortom today inaugurated Seraph Oil Mill, Makurdi, with a call on farmers in the state to intensify soya beans cultivation to feed the mill and others.
He urged investors to take a cue from the initiative in order to boost the economy of the state.
Speaking during the inauguration, Governor Ortom said he was impressed that the factory has positioned itself to play a major role in the realization of his administration's dream.
He noted that through processing the factory could add value to the primary products and boost economic fortunes of farmers and generate massive employment, wealth and opportunities in the state.
The Governor called on farmers in the state to step up the production of soya beans in large quantity to continually supply it to the mill and similar ones.
According to him, the company was one of those that have so far demonstrated faith and willingness that Benue remains the food basket of the nation, promising that his administration would create the enabling environment for the private sector to drive the economy of the state.
He said through the development internally generated revenue would be improved so as to enable the state government constantly pay salaries and meet other obligations of government.
Managing Director of NEXIM Bank, Mr. Roberts Orya, expressed the hope that the inauguration of the factory would inspire additional investments in value- added agro processing to take advantage of the abundant raw materials.
He said this would address the problem of post harvest losses and enhance employment opportunities in line with the vision of the present government.
Mr. Orya commended the management and promoters of SERAPH Nigeria Limited for their commitment to industrialization and assured of NEXIM Bank's readiness to support initiatives that could facilitate non-oil export diversification towards economic growth of the state.
Earlier, Managing Director of SERAPH Nigeria Limited Air Commodore Titus Agbecha, retired, disclosed that the Factory was into manufacturing of animal feeds and vegetable oil.
He appealed for more raw materials, fertilizer and access roads to the factory to enable it perform optimally.
