PDP Crisis: ‘How N1bn From Wada Allegation Was Concocted To Smear NWC’

A fresh crisis of confidence has broken out in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the alleged implication of a serving governor in the crisis between the National Working Committee (NWC) and workers of the party.
It was learnt that the alleged bribery of the NWC with N1billion by Kogi State Governor Idris Wada was said to have been concocted to instigate workers against PDP national officers.
A top leader of the party, who spoke in confidence with some select newsmen in Abuja, said: “Our leaders, including ex-President Goodluck Jonathan and members of the Board of Trustees (BOT), are disturbed about the crisis rocking the party.
“One of the factors we have stumbled on is the implication of a serving PDP governor in the crisis of confidence between the workers and the NWC. This is part of plans to hijack the party by some vested interests. We are already putting heads together on how to resolve the matter at hand because it is threatening the survival of the party.”
A non-governmental organization, the Initiative for Progressive Governance in Emerging Communities (IPDEC), yesterday said its findings confirmed that the crisis was neither about the proposed PDP rationalization of staff, nor the speculated downsizing of its work force.
It called on the PDP NWC to take immediate steps to redeem its integrity and visit necessary penalties on persons involved in these intolerable acts of dishonesty, misconduct and slander, in line with the party’s constitution.
The co-coordinator of the group, Dr. Musa Adejo, made its position known in a press statement last night.
Adejo said: “Our findings clearly revealed that an aggrieved prominent member in the PDP fold served as catalyst and facilitator for the actualization of the public protest carried by the PDP workers which escalated from an in-house disagreement to the level of national dishonour.
“Independent investigations carried out by the NGO provided fresh insight on how a serving state governor made available logistics and financial support to the PDP workers to initiate the crisis of last week by mobilizing public protest on what his NGO later discovered to be based on distorted facts intended to galvanize public sympathy against the PDP NWC and discredit its members with twisted tales of unfounded allegations that have no bearing with the employment issue on ground.
“Our investigations regarding the N1billion allegedly solicited by the PDP NWC from Governor Idris Wada to grant him the PDP flag in the forthcoming Kogi State governorship primaries showed that it was falsehood, and the basis of introducing such into a matter of human resource management should be of concern to any discerning mind.
“It was on the premise of suspicious insincerity that his NGO directed its searchlight on other relevant areas.”
He explained that the probe exposed the fact that the Governor Wada and his close associates had, for some time, been mounting pressure and making to some top members of the PDP NWC without success.
Adejo disclosed that his interaction with “a very reliable source confirmed that the original intention was to persuade the PDP NWC to grant Governor Idris Wada a free hand to conduct and manipulate the Kogi State ward congress which will be used as the platform to ensure that the governor’s men are members of the Kogi State PDP party’s leadership.
According to him, the resolute stance and body language of the current members of the NWC, especially after the widely publicized cancellation of the ward congress in Kogi, prompted the move to arm-twist them (NWC).”
The governor has, however, stated that he had no hand in the ongoing crisis in the party.
Speaking on behalf of his principal, special adviser on media to the governor, Jacob Edi, said: “It is devilish for anybody to suggest in any material particular that His Excellency, Captain Idris Wada, bribed members of the NWC to prosecute the election.
“I wish to reiterate that Captain Wada should be kept out of the ongoing crisis; he has no hands in it. We have a good relationship with the party as a PDP state. The allegation is unfounded and is a wicked lie”.
