BENUE, NASARAWA, HOLD JOINT SECURITY MEETING

By Tahav Agerzua

Benue and Nasarawa State governments are currently holding a joint Security Council meeting in Lafia with the Governors of the two states pledging to promote security, peace and stability.

In his opening remarks Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura said the meeting was convened to find solutions to security challenges along the borders of the two states particularly along the southern parts.

He extolled what he described as the passion of his Benue colleague for peace as reflected through his amnesty program and sensitization about peaceful coexistence among Fulani herdsmen and Tiv farmers.

The Governor pledged to emulate the amnesty initiative and synergize with him.

"Within his short period in office one can see clearly see mileage covered in the provision of security," Governor Al-Makura stated.

"We have identical attributes, ideals and philosophy and are in the mainstream of Nigerian politics, we have everything going in synergy for us to leverage upon and sustain peace between the two states."

In his response, Governor Ortom expressed appreciation to his Nasarawa State counterpart for hosting the meeting and making Nigerians proud by providing critical infrastructure to his people particularly in the roads and education sectors.

He stated that he concentrated efforts in the provision of security because it was a prerequisite for development and pledged that he would also follow the footsteps of Governor Al-Makura who he described as one of the best among their colleagues in the country.

Governor Ortom said he was happy that his peace efforts were yielding positive results within the state and with neighbouring Taraba and Nasarawa states.
